Snow White and the seven dwarfs
Aida McKenzie · Federal Theatre Project / Work Projects Administration, 1938
What it is
Aida McKenzie's poster shows Snow White beside a prince, ringed by the seven dwarfs, silkscreened in flat colour on board.
Why it matters
The Library of Congress dates it only as between 1936 and 1941, with a March 24, 1941 date stamp on the verso. The digitisation of this sheet was supported by Wikimedia UK. The story itself is a Grimm fairy tale long out of copyright, and this is a WPA stage poster, not a film one.
What to notice
Snow White, a prince and all seven dwarfs crowded into one hand-screened WPA sheet.
Made by artists on the public payroll — art the country already owned.
