Egypt in the Age of Travel
The Egyptian Wing
Nile steamers, grand hotels, and the deco Egyptomania of 1922.
1900–1930 (deepens every January)
Nile steamer and shipping-line posters, grand-hotel and railway material through 1930; the story spine is the 1922 Tutankhamun discovery and the deco Egyptomania it lit worldwide. THE HONEST NOTE: the celebrated golden age of Egyptian tourism posters is largely 1930s material — it unlocks year by year under the 95-year rule, beginning with 1931 material in January 2027. Watched pieces render as "opening January [year]" and cannot publish early. Travel-era material carries colonial-age framing; this wing names that plainly and centers the place itself. The antiquarian Nile — Roberts’ lithographs, Prisse d’Avennes’ chromoliths — lives with Cabinet of Curiosities, cross-linked, not duplicated.
