Five Schools, Built to Deepen · Vienna Secession
Plakat für „Frommes Kalender"
Koloman Moser · Frommes Kalender (Verlag Carl Fromme, Vienna), 1899
What it is
A colour lithograph of 1899 advertising Frommes Kalender, printed by Albert Berger in Vienna at 94.7 x 62.2 cm.
Why it matters
The composition hangs on an hourglass motif — time, being the product — with the figure and the hand-drawn display lettering treated as one flat decorative field. The copy held by the Austrian National Library comes from the Hans Sachs poster collection, the great Berlin holding assembled before the war.
What to notice
An hourglass, a woman in period dress, and lettering Moser drew himself — Vienna, 1899.
To every age its art; to art its freedom.
